Baromalli has been tested and found suitable for plywood manufacture. It is used for general manufacturing and interior construction.
Scientific Name: Catosemma Commune
Boles measure 40-60 feet, with a diameters measuring 18-24 inches.
The trees are commonly unbuttressed with a long, slender cylindrical trunk of very low taper and excellent form. Clear boles measure 70-90 feet long and 24-36 inches in diameter.
Baromalli heartwood is a dull yellowish to pinkish brown, not sharply defined from the lighter colored sapwood. Dark colored resin streaks occur as arcs on the cross section and lines of the surface. The grain is straight and the texture coarse.
Weight: In the green condition the timber weighs 70 lbs/ft3, and about 35 lbs/ft3 (860 kg/m3) when air-dry.
Specific Gravity: Air-dry wood averages about .60 based on air-dry volume and weight, and averages .45 based on green volume and oven-dry weight.
Baromalli is not naturally durable. The sapwood is susceptible to sap-staining fungi. However, it is easily preserved by diffusion. Durability class 2.
Seasoning: Baromalli air-dries without excessive degrade
Working/Machining: Works easily with machine and hand tools, giving a clean somewhat fibrous finish.
Assembly: The wood takes glue well and can be nailed without splitting.
Finishing: Machine-finished surfaces lack luster and are harsh to the touch. The wood requires a considerable amount of filler but can be stained and polished satisfactorily, although not to a high luster.
The wood has been tested and found suitable for plywood manufacture. It is used for general manufacturing and interior construction.
Moderate quantities available for export.
Greenheart is natually resistant to wood destroying organisms from the water and land. It is exceptionally hard and used in many different environments from flooring to piling.
